Freight at UIC
A challenging context for freight
Although specific geographical contexts may vary between regions and countries the globalisation of trade means an increasing request for transport services. We are witnessing a large variety of initiatives to promote effcient long-distance freight on international corridors in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Rail freight is increasingly integrated into logistics solutions and this has to be addressed by members in their work at UIC. Concretely, the key challenges for UIC freight members are: - Interoperability and cooperation in terms of technology, procedures and operations - Productivity issues such as train length, train weight, capacity utilisation and seamless information, which are key to freight’s development.
