In accordance with its mission, the UIC Technology and Research Platform (PTR PTR Platform Technology and Research ) is to manage and carry out technical research and migration concepts in order to develop and to guarantee a coherent, competitive, international railway system mainly throughout Europe - but also world wide - according to the UIC objectives and general programs.
The Platform deals with all technical and research matters constituting a centre of expertise for co-ordination of railway system related tasks. The heading ‘railway system’ comprises railway traction rolling stock and vehicles, multiple units, train composition, its operational and running behaviour on the railway infrastructure, as well as the interfaces between rolling stock and infrastructure and between the railway system and the environment.
The Platform shall perform fundamental studies and research aimed at improving the railway system, enhancing interoperability, assuring a high level of rail safety and enhancing the environmental advantages of rail transport when compared against other modes.
